Wellstead Primary School, Hedge End

Background

The grass area adjacent to the school had slopes and had limited use for the children and not particularly interesting. A contractor was sought by the school to create a more interesting and usable area.

Scandor submitted a tender for the works and were awarded the contract in the spring of 2017.

Our Role

Scandor were appointed as main contractor for the project which commenced in May 2017. The following works were undertaken:

• Clearance of the area
• Installation of metal edging
• Formation of a water rill
• Construction of a hard surface using resin bonded gravels
• New stone water feature
• New picnic table seating
• Soft landscaping – shrub & hedge planting and lawn turf

Challenges

The main challenge on this project was working within the school during term time and the associated safety implications. We also had to deal with limited access but this was overcome by removing fencing panels during the works to make an access point which were made safe and secure at the end of each day and reinstalled on completion.
