Scandor continues to experience ongoing and significant growth and we now have a permanent, full-time position for a Landscape Construction Operative to join this award winning business.

Scandor undertakes a wide range of hard & soft landscape construction projects for public sector and commercial clients mainly within the Hampshire area. We are seeking a Landscape Construction Operative who will be working as part of an experienced team in order to complete projects to specification and a high standard, undertaking wide ranging landscape projects.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience in all aspects of soft landscaping such as planting, turfing, seeding and the like. Experience of hard landscaping would be beneficial but is not a requirement for this role.

A full, clean driving licence is essential, with the ability to drive up to 7.5t vehicles advantageous but not a requirement.

Holding a current CSCS card would be beneficial, but if not training will be provided by the company.

This is also a route for an ambitious individual to join a growing business and develop into a position with more responsibility.

Salary £28,500.00-£31,500.00 per year is dependent upon experience and qualifications in addition to pay there will be overtime, annual profit related bonus, company sick pay & pension.

Grounds Maintenance Operative

We undertake works for a wide range of clients such as schools, business parks and other public sector clients. We have a vacancy for a full time Grounds Maintenance Operative to join our team.

The grounds maintenance tasks undertaken includes hedge cutting, shrub and rose beds maintenance, grass cutting to amenity areas, lawns and sports facilities including sports pitch markings.

We are looking for a colleague to join our team who has had previous experience in a ground’s maintenance environment. PA1/PA6a, NVQ and Chainsaw qualifications are desirable, but not essential, where required, we will undertake this training to attain those certificates.

A full, clean driving licence is essential

Rate of Pay £24,000 - £27,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications

Landscape Construction Apprentice

As a business we are committed to development of the team, as part of that objective we have through Sparsholt College recruited a Landscape Construction Apprentice.

This is a two year apprentice with one day being day release at Sparsholt. Scandor is a commercial landscape construction and grounds maintenance business operating within a tight geographical area. During the landscape construction apprenticeship, you will gain skills in the following: -
Planting a wide range of tree, shrubs and herbaceous plants. Learning how to prepare an area for planting and the aftercare needed thereafter. Plant identification, health, care and how they form and develop.

You will initially learn how to use a range of hand tools such as digging, cultivation and measuring equipment including levels and tapes. Other small mechanical equipment such as rotavators, breakers, ride on rollers will be used throughout the apprenticeship. As you progress you will get exposure to use of diggers and dumpers hopefully progressing to a formal certification.

As part of your wider horticultural development and requirements of the course, you will also have some exposure to our ground’s maintenance works using equipment such as a pedestrian mower, strimmer, hedgecutter and ride on mowers.

You will over the two years gain a significant insight into hard landscape construction, we construct a very wide range of features including but not limited to fencing, drainage, kerbing, paving, decking, artificial surfaces, walling and various surfacing such as gravel, rubber and resin bonded.

Health and safety is really important and you will develop a good insight into both the theory at Sparsholt and in practice on the ground.

As an environmental service the environment is really important to us and you will gain an insight into control measures on how we work to protect and enhance.

Given the range of works we undertake a basic understanding of DIY or gardening would be advantageous. Enthusiasm and the drive to learn and progress is paramount. A strong desire to learn about horticulture and want to be in the industry is essential.

A full, clean driving licence is required for this role.

D (4) or above maths & English. Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths must achieve Level 1 and take the test for Level 2 before taking the end-point assessment.

A DBS security check will also be required given that we work in schools and areas that have vulnerable children and adults.

The apprenticeship formally starts in September 2024, but with the option to work over the summer to firstly gain a good insight into commercial landscaping.

We work outdoors in all weathers and the work can be a physically demanding.

We will also invest in your development looking to undertake ROLO Health & Safety training, CSCS, Abrasive Wheel and NPORS during your apprenticeship

The starting salary of £15,470 is above the National Minimum wage for an apprentice. Throughout the apprenticeship there will be regular reviews and your pay subject to performance will be progressively increased as with experience and skills. In addition to the salary there are benefits such as company sick pay, overtime, profit share & pension.
