The weather has been a major factor with this new development. Constructed during the summer 2009 / spring 2010, the autumn/winter period was very wet, which hampered the construction works, primarily the top-soiling this large site.
Although progress with initial cultivation was affected by the weather, Scandor managed to achieve rabbit-fencing, planting and grass-seeding, and achieved practical completion on schedule in time for the official opening at the end April 2010.
We currently have the complete opposite of weather; the driest spring and early summer since 1929! This has given us a very difficult period trying to establish 153 semi-mature trees, 900 feathered trees and 10 thousand whips and shrubs.
At our discretion, we dipped all bare-root trees and whips in P4 rootdip during planting and we will see at the end of the season how successful this has been. Ongoing weekly watering of the semi-mature trees is essential and we continue to strive towards achieving grass and wild flower establishment.
Maintaining this site for three years will give us a chance to work with the weather to achieve the original objectives.
