Client: Chichester District Council
This reinvigoration of a garden leased by Chichester District Council, took place during the autumn of 2009.
Scandor were employed to clear the site of large sections of overgrown vegetation, before introducing the hard landscape features. Immediate issues included restricted access through the old city wall archways, and also the removal of large tree stumps on the rampart bank.
The company’s own 7.5 Tonne lorries enabled reasonable access and we employed a remote-controlled stump-chipper to tackle the tree roots. Once clearance was complete, Scandor constructed:
-
large and small water-features
-
timber-edges steps with hand-rail for rampart access
-
oak and rope pergola
-
Breedon gravel paths with Aluminium edging
-
Victorian tile feature to mark the site of a former greenhouse
More recently, friends of Bishops Palace Gardens and Chichester District Council staff have planted the herbaceous beds. Visitors now enjoy this beautiful green space in the shadow of the cathedral.
